Congratulations to ADAVB BOQ Specialist Bursary recipient Dr Anand Makwana

Dr Anand Makwana, owner of Warragul Dental Care, has been announced as the recipient of the 2019 ADAVB BOQ Specialist CPD Practice Bursary.

Now in its fifth consecutive year, the $10,000 bursary acknowledges dental practices committed to quality learning and provides further funding for professional development for practitioners and professional staff members.

Commenting on the award, Dr Makwana said, “We are so thrilled to be the recipients of the ADAVB BOQ Specialist CPD Practice Bursary. Our ability to deliver a first-class patient experience to our patients comes from having a team that is well trained in both customer service and the latest in dental technology. Our team is our biggest asset and we know that the bursary will be well invested into our ongoing learning environment where our local community will benefit from these learning experiences."

ADAVB President, Dr Gitika Sanghvi, said, ““Dr Makwana and his team’s commitment to excellence, integrity, teamwork, training, learning and personal fulfilment made them a stand-out in the 2019 practice bursary applications. Their team-oriented approach means they deem success as delivering exceptional patient care experience for every patient. Complete the 2019 ADA Fees Survey

The ADA has launched the 2019 Fees Survey which provides a snapshot of the fees charged nationwide by generalist and specialist dentists on over 120 of the most commonly used items of service, including diagnostic, preventive, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, orthodontic and oral surgery procedures.

ADAVB members are encouraged to complete the survey, which asks members for the fees charged in their practice on 30 June 2019, as a vital contribution to the ADA's advocacy work.

An email invitation with a link to the survey was sent to a sample of 11,000 ADA members in private practice.

Please note: The ADA does not play a role in setting or recommending fee structures for members; what a practice decides to charge is a matter solely for the practice itself.

Help end discriminatory rebates. Sign the ADA's petition

Encourage your staff and patients to sign the petition that the ADA will hand to the Senate to push for fairness to be restored to the private health insurance system. All you have to do is print the official petition and encourage patients, family members, friends and practice staff to sign it. Send your signed sheets to the ADA who will collate and submit them officially to the Senate.

Help in three easy steps:

1. Print the petition and place it in your practice for patients, staff, friends and family to sign. That's anyone affected by unfair rebates.

2. Aim for at least 100 signatures but if you can get more, that's great! (The more signatures we get, the greater the impact and the clearer the message when the petition is handed into the Senate.)

The petition PDF holds eight pages of 15 signing lines each so printing it off gives you the capacity for 120 signatures. Repeat as necessary.

3. Mail back the completed sheets in batch sizes of your choosing (original copies only; no photocopies, please) to:

Private health insurance petition
Australian Dental Association
14-16 Chandos Street
St Leonards NSW 2065

If you are wondering why the ADA is using a paper petition and not an online version, parliamentary petition rules state that online petitions can only run for four weeks whereas we want this to have a much longer lifespan than that. Additionally, paper petitions are viewed as more significant than their online counterparts within parliament. It's a requirement of paper petitions that the Senate is provided with the original version.
