Leading doctor to head AIHW
Eminent doctor and leader in the medical profession, Dr Mukesh Haikerwal, is the new Chairperson of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).
He is a former national president of the Australian Medical Association and current Chairperson of the World Medical Association Council.
The AIHW is an independent statutory authority, providing the Federal Government and public with reliable, regular and relevant information and statistics on Australia's health and welfare.
The ADAVB congratulates Dr Haikerwal on his appointment, and looks forward to him bringing his usual energy and insight to this very important role.
He is a former national president of the Australian Medical Association and current Chairperson of the World Medical Association Council.
In 2011 he was made a member of the Order of Australia
"for distinguished service to medical administration, to the promotion of
public health through leadership roles with professional organisations,
particularly the Australian Medical Association, to the reform of the
Australian health system through the optimisation of information technology,
and as a general practitioner."
