Oral health of children must be maintained - ADA

The Australian Dental Association Inc.is concerned with the findings of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s Child Dental Health Survey Australia 2007: 30-year trends in child oral health report released last week. While the AIHW’s report overall indicates that children’s oral health has improved substantially over the past 30 years, it also suggests a worrying downward trend in oral health status over the last few years, ADA President Dr Shane Fryer said. The ADA has already recognised this and over the past few years has given children’s oral heath a focus in its campaigns.
To avoid complacency, the ADA is calling on parents and the government to refocus efforts on prevention. Adopting the right behaviours early in life ultimately means that children should have fewer dental problems later, Dr Shane Fryer added.
