New Health Minister won't commit to Denticare
Newly appointed Health Minister Tanya Plibersek acknowledged today that dental health services for poor Australians are inadequate but refused to commit to a universal dental health care scheme.
She told ABC News 24: "I'm not going to start making up policy on the spot. I need to talk to the States and Territories; I need to talk to the stakeholders in this area."
Labor promised to consider investment in dental care as part of a deal with the Greens in return for the minor party's support for the minority government.
The Greens want the Government to commit $5 billion to the so-called Denticare scheme in next year's budget.
