Dentistry recognised in Public Healthcare Awards



A team from Dental Health Services Victoria, The University of Melbourne and La Trobe University has been awarded a prestigious Victorian Public Healthcare Award for their efforts to improve community access to dental services.
The Victorian Minister for Health, Mr David Davis awarded Adjunct Prof Hanny Calache, Director of Clinical Leadership, Education and Research at DHSV and his team,with the Developing a Capable and Engaged Workforce Award for a project that focused on expanding the scope of practice of dental therapists.
The project resulted in dental therapists being able to treat patients aged 26 years and over.
Chief Executive Officer of DHSV, Dr Deborah Cole, said: “This project is a great example of public health professionals working together to address challenges”.
The team consisted of:
• Adjunct Prof Calache, Dr Julie Shaw, Dr Valda Groves, Ms Julie Butcher, Ms Deidre Mackechnie (DHSV)
• A/Prof Rodrigo Mariño, Prof Mike Morgan, A/Prof Julie Satur, A/Prof Matthew Hopcraft , who is also ADAVB President (University of Melbourne)
• A/Prof Mark Gussy (La Trobe University).
