Support for dentists to move to the country

The Victorian Government’s Rural and Regional Health Plan – released today – says that the Government will give support to dental practitioners to move from metropolitan areas to rural and regional communities. The document says that this initiative will help clinicians and their families who incur high costs in relocating and establishing a practice in the country. The Government says that it will also work with the Australian Dental Association and other professional bodies to address workforce gaps and make better use of existing workforce capabilities in public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Last May the Government released the Victorian Health Priorities Framework 2012–2022, which provides the blueprint for the planning and development priorities for the Victorian healthcare system for the coming decade. The framework provides the foundation for the Rural and Regional Health Plan. The Government says that the framework has been applied to the rural and regional health system to drive the development of key actions that will deliver services in rural and regional Victoria that are more responsive to people’s needs and rigorously informed and informative.
