Oral health to benefit with new research centre
The new Oral Health Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) was officially launched this morning at The University of Melbourne by the Minister for Industry, Innovation, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr.
The CRC, costing $31.6 million over seven years, will help address the nation’s dental health issues.
The centre will include major research projects for the development of a vaccine for the gum disease periodontitis and incorporate Recaldent™ technology into products to help prevent tooth decay.
The CEO of the centre, Laureate Professor Eric Reynolds AO, said: “The funding and support provided to the CRC by government means we can focus on innovative approaches to preventing and treating oral diseases”.
The CRC's work is organised around four research programs as follows:

- Oral and systemic diseases
- Prevention and early diagnosis
- Reconstruction and regeneration
- Intervention and management (in which one of the aims is to contribute to the eviDent Dental Practice Based Research Network)
